Space Invaders is a classic space game designed by Tomohiro Nishikado and released in 1978. According to ClassicWebGames.com Space Invaders is one of the earliest space shooting games and the aim is to defeat waves of aliens with a laser cannon to earn as many points as possible The player defeats aliens, and earns points by shooting them. As more aliens are defeated, the aliens movement and the music both speed up. Defeating all the space aliens brings another wave that is more difficult, a loop which can continue indefinitely. The creator Tomohiro Nishikado drew inspiration for the aliens from H. G. Wells' The War of the Worlds. Nishikado had watched the 1953 film adaptation as a child, and created initial bitmap images after the octopus like aliens. Other aliens were modeled after squids and crabs.
